An operation performed on Azeri President Heydar Aliyev in Cleveland, the US passed successfully and the President is expected to return home in a couple of days, according to a presidential official. By Azernews Staff
President Aliyev had been diagnosed with hypertrophy of prostate gland during his medical examination in Cleveland, the US. The disease can be cured without surgery, but he opted a radical method of treatment, an operation, according to health minister Ali Insanov.
Patients undergone this surgery are kept under supervision of doctors for at least 5-6 days and then discharged, the minister said.
The President's cardiovascular apparatus and other organs are functioning well, the president's press secretary said in a statement Friday.

While in the US, the Azeri President made a nationwide address Monday, in which the head of state says that he is on the mend and his treatment will complete in a couple of days.
He states he gets information on developments in the country every day. The President is keeping regular phone contacts with the Speaker, the ministers and the Prosecutor General.
"Their reports and my instructions have ensured a normal course of events in Azerbaijan during my stay away. This means that the work of our state and executive bodies is on a high level", he said in the address.
"I am aware of the concerns our people are experiencing over their President", Aliyev says. Saying there is no cause for worrying, President Aliyev notes he misses his country very much and hopes for return home in several days.
