President Aliyev gave a news briefing at the Bina Airport of Baku on his arrival from the CIS summit in Moscow on Saturday.
It was important how the President termed the signing of the treaty on the status of the Caspian with Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan, Russian and Kazakhstan have similar agreements now. It forwards our principle of dividing the Caspian into national sectors, President Aliyev said.
The Azeri head of state told journalists that during the top meeting he had had talks with Turkmen President Niyazov, who reaffirmed that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan should arrive at common grounds over the status issue. "He asked me to send our delegates to negotiate and I agreed", the President said.
Touching upon the bilateral talks with Georgian President Shevardnadze, President Aliyev said the negotiations had centered around the situation in Georgia, which is now getting much better.
The Georgian government is being formed and the country is getting out of the crisis. Stability in Georgia is a very important factor for Azerbaijan, the Azeri President stressed.
On the meeting with Russian President Putin and Armenian Kocharian, President Aliyev said the two Caucasus nations haven't changed their position. The OSCE co-chairs say they would accept any agreement that Azerbaijan and Armenia could reach.
During the meeting of the three, the Russian President said the two nations should not be pressed for solution and must work together to formulate a solution to this serious strife. Russia will facilitate and support the implementation of any decision the parties to the conflict will opt, President Aliyev quoted the Russian President as saying.
