The Third World Forum on Global Water Partnership called the Kur-Araz basin the most polluted among 8 regions of the world, Europe, the Mediterranean, South-East Asia, Western Africa, Central America, South America and Transcaucasia, one of the Azeri participants in the event, department chief of the State Committee on Melioration Mammad Aslanov told AssA-Irada Thursday. Azerbaijan was admitted to the Forum after having an observer status.
The situation is even worse for Azerbaijan due to the impossibility of monitoring cross-border water flows in the Caucasus, especially between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Forum focused on regulating regional partnership relations in joint global protection and water utilization, establishing contacts with donor countries for liquidation of contamination sources and solving other water-related problems. Also on agenda was dialogue among nations on approaches towards complex management of water resources in the 8 regions.*
