Convention specialists meeting Caspian experts
Representatives of the international conventions, CITES on international trading in endangered fauna and flora species, ESPOO on cross-border environmental impact assessment and AARHUS, or the Aarhus convention, on access to information and the right to apply to law enforcement bodies for environmental issues, are paying a four-day visit to Baku. They are expected to meet with experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran and hold a seminar.
The purpose of the seminar is to create conditions necessary for adoption of the standards of these conventions in the Caspian region. A draft document outlining the principles of selecting measures for effective introduction of the conventions in the national legal systems of the five coastal nations will be prepared.
The seminar is organized by the Caspian Ecological Program.*
