Russian Orthodox Church leader pays first visit to Azerbaijan

The Patriarch of Moscow and Russia Alexiy II arrived in Baku Friday on a three-day official visit on the invitation of President Aliyev.

According to a source from the Caucasus Clerical Office, Alexiy II has paid tribute to those buried in the Alley of Martyrs and visited Baku Slavonic University, where he was awarded an honorary doctor’s title.

As part of the visit, Russian Patriarch will meet with President Aliyev and Sheik Pashazadeh, attend a service at the Virgin Temple Saturday.

Alexiy II and Sheik Pashazadeh are also to sign a declaration on cooperation.
