Azeri gas supplies to Georgia suspended

The supplies of Azeri gas to Georgia have been suspended, Azerbaijan’s state-controlled supplier Azerigas said.

The company’s president Alikhan Malikov said all of the commitments stipulated by a relevant contract signed by the two countries have been met but a new agreement is now to be inked to resume gas deliveries to the neighboring South Caucasus republic. “Talks on the issue continue with the Georgian side,” he added.

Georgia has been meeting its domestic demand on account of Azeri gas since last year.

In addition to the gas produced from Azerbaijan’s biggest offshore field Shahdaniz, the country was buying a million cubic meters of gas extracted by Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR a day prior to the suspension.*
