3 Azeris wounded in Iraq assault

3 Azeris were heavily wounded after being subjected shooting in Khanaqin, Iraq.

The three worked on a contract for a Turkish company engaged in transporting oil field equipment and were assaulted by robbers, the Iraqi embassy in Baku said.

They were hospitalized and their condition is satisfactory.

Among the injured are Hasan Mirzayev, 50 and Sharif Novruzov, 45, while the last name of the other person is not reported. The individual that opened fire has been detained, latest reports say.

150 Azeri officers and soldiers are serving in Iraq within the peacekeeping mission. Troops from Azerbaijan have been a part of the anti-terror efforts in this country since August 2003 and are replaced on a rotation basis every year. The next replacement will take place in January.
