2nd congress of journalists held
The Press Council (PC) held the 2nd congress of Azerbaijani journalists on Saturday.
The event was attended by chairman of Turkey’s Press Council and Ali Hasanov, head of the President’s Palace socio-political department.
Touching upon the one-year activity of the PC, Hasanov said the Council had failed to achieve its goals. He related the failure to the lack of public support and financial constraints and vowed to do his utmost to ensure that the PC be granted an appropriate building.
Stressing that President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to the freedom of press in Azerbaijan, Hasanov called journalists to struggle against dishonest reporters and respect to individuals’ honor and dignity.
Then PC chairman Aflatun Amashov delivered a report on the Council’s one-year activity.
Other speakers at the congress underscored the importance of the government’s support for press in Azerbaijan, fighting dishonest journalism and the problems in this sphere.*
