SECURITY JOINS MEP ENGINEERING
The Georgian Ministry for National Security is currently working in cooperation with the engineering group of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan MEP, security minister Vakhtang Kutetevadze said Tuesday. While selecting the site for the would-be pipeline, its security is also taken into account, he said.
According to him, some endeavored to blow up the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline last year. However, the attempts were intercepted by the Georgian law enforcement bodies, Mr. Kutetevadze said. These subversive activities, as he believes, aims at discouraging stability in Georgia and crippling implementation of the BTC project. But, the law enforcement of Georgia is successfully coping with the task imposed, he concluded.
MEMORANDUM SIGNED IN ASTANA
The "Memorandum on mutual understanding for the Aktau-Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil transportation project" was signed in Astana, March 1, following the negotiations among Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, the US and Kazakhstan.
By signing the document, the parties voiced their intention to hold soonest talks and to prepare a package of necessary agreements, which is believed to accelerate involvement of oil companies, active in Kazakhstan, in the project.
Also under discussion in Astana were issues pertaining to establishing an environment in Kazakhstan, similar to that, set up for the investors of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan MEP in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
EXXONMOBIL SCHEDULES DRILLING
ExxonMobil intends to drill the first exploration well on the "Nakhchivan" prospect in 2001, a source at the company told AssA-Irada Monday.
It is still obscure which semi submersible drilling rig will be employed during the drilling operations. It is believed to be "Dada Gorgud", which is currently engaged in drilling on the "Inam" field and expected to drill on the "Kurdashi" later.
ITOCHU GROSSES ANOTHER OIL PROFIT
Japanese oil company, "Itochu" has grossed profits from the ninth lot of crude, dispatched as part of "The Contract of the Century".
"Itochu" Baku office told AssA-Irada Saturday that the volume of the latest batch was 1 million barrels (roughly 135 tons) of oil. The tanker, carrying the oil left the Georgian port of Supsa on schedule - before March 14.
OVER 171,000 TONS OF OIL PRODUCTS EXPORTED
In January-February of 2001, the "AzerNeftYagh" production unit exported over 171,000 tons of oil products totaling $34 million, a source at SOCAR told Azernews Tuesday.
Of the exports, 142,600 tons were diesel fuel, 21,400 tons aviation gasoline, 6,000 tons naphtha and 1,100 tons lubricating oil.
SOCAR TO EXPORT 145,000 TONS OF CRUDE IN MARCH
In 2 months of 2001, SOCAR exported 205,133 tons of crude through the northern Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline, including 130,000 tons in February. According to a SOCAR source, 145,000 tons are to be transported through the conduit in March, 150,000 tons in April-May and 200,000 tons in June.
A total of 850,000 tons will be exported in the first half year.
3 OIL TANKERS LEAVE SUPSA IN FEBRUARY
3 oil tankers with 3,039,813 barrels (409,984 tons) of oil left the Georgian port of Supsa in February.
A source at BP told AssA-Irada Friday that in February a total of 3,269,100 barrels (442,285 tons) of crude were transported through the western export pipeline.
According to the source, 3,354,400 barrels (453,297 tons) of oil were extracted on Chiraq field last month.
CONOCO TO ASSUME 16% OF DRILLING FACILITY EXPENSES
Conoco Azerbaijan has assumed 16% of the expenses for construction of a semi-submersible drilling rig. The facility is to be used for exploratory drilling operations in the "Zafar-Mashal" contract area. Conoco is one of the partners of the project.
Operating the "Zafar-Mashal" contract, Exxon-Mobil concluded an agreement with Maersk Contractors for constructing the rig, which is designed to drill to the depth of 9,140 meters working in 1,000 meters of water. The rig is to be built for three years.
