CAUCASUS SPEAKERS TO MEET IN STRASBOURG
Azeri, Armenian and Georgian speakers are expected to meet in Strasbourg on the initiative of the PA CE chairman Lord Russell Johnston on March 14-15 to focus on ways of solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict, regional security and prospects of economic, science and cultural cooperation.
This will be the fourth meeting of speakers to be initiated by the PA CE chairman.
JONES' VISIT FAILS FOR REASONS UNKNOWN
The counselor for US President and Secretary of State on Caspian energy diplomacy Mrs. Elizabeth Jones was scheduled to pay a working visit to Azerbaijan on March 5, but a source from US embassy told Azernews Tuesday that the visit has failed for reasons unknown.
Mrs. Jones was to hold talks with the country leaders on construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan MEP.
NEW GRANT PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
The UNDP Resource Training Center has announced a new grant program and started accepting project bids from NGOs to be financed by donors. The proposals concern health, education, poverty eradication problems, income generation, social security, etc.
Preference will be given to refugees and IDPs, as well as highly effective proposals with maximum duration of 6 months. The deadline has been set at March 30, while proposals will be chosen by a specially established selection council.
FRONTIER GUARD ANNOUNCES TENDER
The frontier guard department under the Ministry of National Security has announced a tender for the purchase of automobiles and engineering facilities. The department told Azernews Friday that the deadline for tender bids had been set at March 30 with tender outcomes to be announced on April 10.
Participation fee is AZM 1,750,000.
Under the tender requirements, the companies or organizations interested in taking part are to provide a performance bound of 2% of the contract value. Besides, the winner is to agree to deliver the facilities no later than within a month.
$40 MLN TO BE INVESTED IN RAILWAY
$40 million in foreign investment will be invested in the Azerbaijan railway in 2001. According to the railway office, the means will mainly target the development of the locomotive depot and modernization of the alarm system on the Baku-Beyuk Kasik section.
The source added that due to an increase in freight turnover, a number of corresponding projects will be implemented in Russian direction. AZM40 billion of the EBRD $20 million credit will be used this year.
BARS TO WORK TILL MIDNIGHT
The Mayor of Baku issued a resolution Saturday regulating the work of bars, discos and other entertainment facilities, which are to remain open till midnight.
As far as the bars and disco clubs within 4 and 5-star hotels are concerned, their work hours are to be agreed upon with the Mayor's office.
