EURASIAN ECONOMIC FORUM DUE IN ALMATY
A Eurasian economic forum under the auspices of the Davos Forum is due in Almaty, Kazakhstan on April 7-9. The gathering will center on prospects of development of economic ties in the region, establish relations with potential investors and present drafts and programs. Participating in the forum will be government officials, businessmen, diplomats and representatives from international financial organizations. Leading the Azeri delegation will be Deputy Premier Yagub Eyyubov.
SPEAKER TO LEAVE FOR BEIJING
The Speaker of the Azerbaijan parliament Murtuz Alaskarov is expected to pay a working visit to China on April 12 to participate in the conference of the Association of Asian Parliamentarians, due on April 15 in Beijing, a parliament source said Monday. The Azeri speaker will hold bilateral meetings with participating speakers.
FRENCH ENTREPRENEURS DUE
A delegation of the Business Association of French Entrepreneurs is expected to visit Baku on April 16 and 18. The delegation led by President of Mebeuf International Christian Monse will include 25 French companies and 13 banks and concerns. The French entrepreneurs are scheduled to meet with President Aliyev and Azeri ministers. The focus will be on development of bilateral commercial and economic relations and possible investments by French companies.
TEMPLE OF LOVE BANNED
A court in Narimanov district of Baku ruled to ban the evangelistic Baptist Temple of Love, which was accused of propagandizing intolerance and animosity. The hearings followed an official suit by the State Committee on Religious Entities. Also attending the court was a spokesman from the OSCE Baku Office.
AZERI STUDENTS TO STUDY IN JAPAN
The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has granted scholarship for Azeri students willing to study in universities of Japan in humanitarian, social and natural sciences, including literature, history, law, politics, economics, pedagogy, psychology, sociology, music, arts, nature studies, national economy, fishing, engineering, medicine, etc. Nominators for the scholarship must be citizens of Azerbaijan under 35 as of 2003, graduates of universities and colleges, select a specialty corresponding to their original one, learn Japanese, be able to leave for Japan on April 1-3 or on October 1-7 of 2003. Education period is a year and a half from April 2003 till March 2005, or from October 2003 till March 2005. The education includes six months' Japanese courses.
The applications are welcome in the Japanese embassy in Baku before June 14, 2002.
