US ‘Keeping an eye on President Aliyev’s recovery’
US Vice-President Dick Cheney phoned Azeri President Aliyev, who was undergoing his prostate gland treatment in Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Thursday to ask about the course of his recuperation. The Vice-President said both President Bush and the US Administration is keeping an eye on the Azeri President's recovery.
Aliyev thanked the US top official for the care, commending the treatment he was receiving in Cleveland.
The two exchanged views on the present level and prospects of bilateral relations.
Underscoring the role Azerbaijan and President Aliyev are playing in the fight against international terrorism, Mr. Cheney said President Bush highly appreciates this support.
The Azeri leader asked to convey his cordial gratitude to President Bush for extolling Azerbaijan's part in the international anti-terror coalition.
Touching upon the US-Azerbaijan relations, the Vice-President emphasized Azerbaijan's strategic importance in the region. "That is why our cooperation is vital for all world nations", he said.
Aliyev stated Azerbaijan is ready to expand international cooperation in the resolution of international disputes, especially the combat against terrorism.
The Azeri President and Mr. Cheney exchanged views on the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict. Pinning positive feedback on the US involvement in the solution to the dispute, President Aliyev regretted that the soonest resolution would hae hiked bilateral collaboration.
Sharing the same vision with the Azeri leader, D. Cheney said the US would always do its best to help settle the conflict and wished the Azeri President to heal soon.
