MPs COMMEMORATE VICTIMS
The 10th anniversary of the occupation of Garadaghli village of Khojavand province by Armenian forces was marked in parliament Friday.
Head of Khojali's executive body, MP Elman Mammadov told a parliamentary session Friday that 72 people were killed with calculated brutality and 100 wounded during the occupation of the village on February 15, 1992. On his proposal MPs stood in silent tribute to the victims.
AZERI PARLIAMENT TO ADDRESS TURKIC NATIONS
Speaker of the Milli Mejlis Murtuz Alasgarov told MPs Tuesday that the Azeri parliament would appeal to the parliaments of Turkic nations to debate the Khojali genocide, an Armenians perpetrated bloodbath that claimed the lives of over 1,000 civilians and leveled the Azeri town of Khojali. He reminded that the Great National Assembly of Turkey is expected to mull the slaughter shortly.
According to the speaker, the parliament will hold a comprehensive discussion of the Khojali massacre on February 26, with foreign diplomats invited, to provide it with a political assessment.
GENOCIDE OF AZERIS IN FOCUS
An MP, executive secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov proposed to table the Khogali genocide, which will turn 10 on February 26, in a parliamentary session Tuesday.
According to him, the perpetrators of the terrible carnage against the Azeri population should stand the European and International Courts of Justice. "The next case after that of Milosevic at the Hague Court should be the Khojali genocide", he stressed.
PARLIAMENT RATIFIES 6 DOCUMENTS
The Azerbaijan parliament ratified 6 documents Tuesday. They include the Convention between the Azerbaijan and French governments on avoiding double taxation and preventing income and capital tax evasions", agreements "On joining the World Postal Convention", "On joining the agreement on postal parcels", "On joining the International Convention and its amendments on mutual administrative assistance for prevention, analysis and liquidation of customs offenses" and the Regulation of the Accountancy Chamber.
MPs DEBATE MINORS
MPs discussed Friday draft regulations "On commissions for cases of minors and protection of their rights" prepared by the permanent parliamentary commission for state building and legal issues.
MPs Nizami Khudiyev and Gular Ahmadova approved of the draft, which is intended to regulate the work of the commissions for punishment of young administrative offenders and their further return into society.
MPs proposed to indicate age limits, open special schools for hard-educated girls and provide the commissions with powers to fight against exploitation of child labor.Compiled by Saba Agayeva Azernews Staff Writer
