Aliyev voted friend of journalists, his brother their Enemy

The Aliyev brothers have been elected the winners of the survey conducted by the "Ruh" journalistic association in the fifth consecutive awarding year in the nomination of the "Friend and Enemy of Journalists", as President Aliyev was voted the Friend and his brother academician and MP Jalal Aliyev the Enemy of Journalists.

The survey is conducted among some 40 newspaper editors by a secret ballot. Last year's title of the Friend of Journalist was voted to Musavat chairman Isa Gambar, who is expected, under the traditions, to present the awards to the new winners in a ceremony.

"The announcement gave as a surprise to me, as Heydar Aliyev could have been declared as 15-day friend of pressmen", I. Gambar said, hinting at the concessions the President made for the press at the end of 2001. The awarding undertakings are still to be defined.
