PARLIAMENT MULLS MANDATE DEPRIVATION

Speaker of the Milli Mejlis Murtuz Alasgarov has applied to the disciplinary commission for deprivation of MP Mirmahmud Fattayev of his parliamentary mandate. Chairman of the commission Karim Karimov told its meeting Wednesday that under the parliament's internal by-laws an MP absent from 30 sessions could be stripped of his or her mandate. M. Fattayev has missed 72 sessions, he said.

The commissioners unanimously voted to unseat M. Fattayev, who has never attended parliament session since the parliament elections on November 5 2000.

MPs PROPOSE GUN FOR FOREST GUARDS

The permanent parliamentary commission on agrarian policy focused on the draft law "On amendments and alterations to the Forest Code". Chairman of the commission Eldar Ibrahimov updated the commissioners of the changes made to the Code, particularly the right of a forest guard to carry guns, a list of privileges intended for forest workers and allocation of free outfits.

The amended bill was forwarded to the Milli Mejlis.

MP LOSES PARLIAMENT MANDATE

The Milli Mejlis voted Friday to deprive chairman of the PFPA classical wing Mirmahmud Fattayev of his parliament mandate, with 72 MPs for and 12 against. The deprivation came after M.Fattayev had refused to attend 73 sessions of what he believes is an illegitimate parliament.

The parliament elected Abbas Allahverdiyev as deputy chairman of the Accountancy Chamber.

Corruption law to be passed in late December

Chairman of the PFPA reform wing, MP Ali Karimli stressed the necessity of adopting the law on corruption in a parliament session Tuesday. Speaker Alasgarov said that the draft corruption law was under consideration and would be passed in late December in line with the commitments Azerbaijan has taken to the CE.

MEDIA LAW TO BE AMENDED WITH CE EXPERTS

MP Rizvan Jabiyev told a parliament session Tuesday that the amendments to the draft laws "On media" and "On TV and radio broadcasting" had been forwarded to the CE, which has sent its experts to Baku. The experts are expected to take part in the sessions of the Milli Mejlis dedicated to the debates of the laws on December 12-14.

The bills should be passed in the first reading before the end of December under the commitments of Azerbaijan to the CE.
