YOUNG LAWYERS' UNION ENGAGED IN LAW PROJECT
The non-governmental Azerbaijan Young Lawyers' Union (AYLU) has been implemented an Ombudsman law education project since November 2001. The implementation is underway using foreign aid.
Revealing the purpose of the program, AYLU chairman Nadir Ahmadov stated that Ombudsman Law defends human rights and freedoms. He said the program secures the respect of those values by governmental and municipal bodies and assist in restoration of the violated rights. Over 10 days, state officials must provide the human rights commissioner with necessary documents and materials. If necessary, in written form the Ombudsman may be queered to substantiate the disputable issue from a state official. While investigating the complaint, the Ombudsman has the right to give a commission to the state bodies. The government officials, the commanders of military units, the heads of investigating isolators and places of confinement are obliged to give an audience to Ombudsman, he said.
