KEY OPPOSITION PARTIES DIVIDE
Judging by the ongoing skirmish between the split PFPA wings, the entire opposition camp is likely to be divided in two political blocs.
Chairman of the Civil Solidarity Party MP Sabir Rustamkhanli told Azernews Thursday that one of the blocs would be formed of parties included into one of the two Democratic Congresses.
Mr. Rustamkhanli didn't spell out the parties to be included into the bloc. He did not rule out the possibility of PNIA joining it. It is being speculated behind the scenes that the "Adalat" party is expected to take part in the bloc too.
The new bloc will serve as an alternative to the already existing bloc of four parties - ADP, ALP, Musavat, and PFPA conservatives.

PNIA TO ALTER POLITICAL COURSE
The PNIA will change its political course in accordance with the current situation in the country, the PNIA chairman Etibar Mammadov told a meeting with residents of Sumgayit on February 11.
However, he didn't spell out what the changes will be.
He touched upon the post-election political situation, the hunger-strike by the Garabagh handicapped and problems within the opposition.
After the party's congress due on February 25, the PNIA chairman intends to travel to provinces to meet with regional party members.

FRENCH EMBASSY PICKETED
Some 100 members of Musavat's youth organization picketed French embassy in protest to the French Senate's recognition of the so-called "Armenian genocide" at 3 p.m. Friday.
The youngsters chanted anti-French slogans, read a resolution, forwarded it to the embassy, and laid a "mourning wreath" to the embassy's entrance.
The picket was held without police interference.
On the same day, around 150 members of the PFPA conservative wing held two protest actions outside French embassy, venting their fury following over the genocide resolution.
PFPA conservatives intend to make a point of holding such actions every Friday until the February 24 nationwide street march to be organized by the Union for Integral Azerbaijan (UIA).
It is remembered that the Union has proposed to mark February 26, when a thousand peaceful people were slain in Khojali, as the day of genocide of Azeris.

CIVIL SOLIDARITY SET FOR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION?
The Civil Solidarity Party (CSP) has decided to hold a congress to nominate its chairman Sabir Rustamkhanli as presidential candidate for the next election in 2003, the CSP press-secretary Elchin Mirzabayli told Azernews Monday.
According to him, the conduct of the congress is necessitated by the growing number of the party's regional branches. The party says such offices have been set up in 17 provinces lately.

TWO SOCIAL DEMOCRATS EXPELLED
The plenary session of the Azerbaijan Social Democratic Party (ASDP) has expelled two party members. One of the evictees is Arzu Abdullayeva, one of the first members of the party, chairperson of the Helsinki Civil Watch National Committee.
According to a party executive, Mrs. Abdullayeva has been expelled for destabilizing activities.

ADP TO CONDUCT PICKET
The Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) intends to conduct a picket Friday demanding to release the arrested party members and end the crackdown on its leaders and activists, the party told Azernews Thursday.
The unsanctioned picket is expected to last from 4 till 7 p.m. in front of the Supreme Court building, as the picketers intend to demand "Freedom to political prisoners", "End to baseless accusations", etc.
