PRESIDENT's IRANIAN VISIT ON AGENDA
Deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov has discussed issues of preparation for President Aliyev's visit to Iran with Iran's foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi. The visit is scheduled for the spring of this year. The parties also focused on prospects of Azeri-Iranian relations, issues concerning the legal status of the Caspian, the upcoming Tehran summit of Caspian littoral states, etc.

FIRST AZERI-SAUDI COMMISSION TO MEET IN BAKU
The first meeting of the Azeri-Saudi inter-governmental economic commission is due in Baku February 19-21. According to a Cabinet source, a delegation led by the co-chairman of the commission, Saudi minister for trade Usam Jafar Al-Faghi is expected to visit Baku. The group will also include businessmen interested in investing in the Azerbaijan economy. The first meeting will focus on opportunities of economic collaboration, expansion of trade relations and new joint economic projects.
On behalf of Azerbaijan, the commission is led by vice-premier Yagub Ayyubov.

THREE GRANTS FROM JAPANESE GOV'T
3 grants from Japanese government totaling JPY868.5 million ($7,486,500) have been provided to Azerbaijan in a ceremony at the Cabinet of Ministers Friday.
The JPY450 million grant targets the purchase of agricultural machines, the JPY372 million - of road and construction equipment, while the JPY46.5 million - of musical instruments for the state symphonic orchestra. On behalf of Azerbaijan, the document was signed by the minister for agriculture Irshad Aliyev, vice-premier Abid Sharifov and minister for culture Polad Bul-Bul oglu. From Japan, the agreements were signed by ambassador to Azerbaijan Tesue Khirose.

LEGAL STATUS OF CIS MIGRANTS TO BE DISCUSSED
The legal status of CIS migrants will be a core issue on the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the CIS Consultative Council for labor, migration and social security of the population due in Kishinev, Moldova, February 14-15. Azerbaijan will be represented by deputy minister for labor and social security Ilgar Rahimov.
The meeting is also expected to focus on protection of national labor markets from illegal labor migration and mechanisms of interaction in this area.

GUUAM SUMMIT POSTPONED
The summit of GUUAM member-states, which was initially scheduled for March 6-7 in Kiev, has been put off for reasons unknown. Ukrainian ambassador Boris Alexenko told Azernews that Moldovan President Luchinski, due to parliamentary elections in the country, and Azeri President Aliyev, because of a busy working schedule, have asked President Kuchma to postpone the summit.
According to the ambassador, the summit will be held in May or June at the earliest.
