OPPOSITION DEMANDS CLOSURE OF GABALA RLS

Russia helps Armenia occupy 20% of the Azeri lands and can watch military operations in Azerbaijan using the Gabala Radio Location Station in the country, as the trucking station is a Russian military presence in Azerbaijan, it was stated during a roundtable at the Press Club of Baku Friday.

The roundtable, "Gabala RLS: problems and their solution ways", was organized by pro-Musavat Democratic Congress-1. Speakers at the roundtable underscored the ecological concerns arising from the RLS operations, re-settlement of local residents due to a high radiation level, cancer cases, the damage being caused to agriculture, etc. and advocated for closure of the station and conduct of serious consultations with neighboring allies.

In the meanwhile Democratic Congress-2 has issued a statement on the leasing of the Gabala Radio Location Station by Russia, saying that it would be reasonable to have international ecological organizations determine the harmfulness rate of the tracking station.

DemCongress-2 calls on the authorities to put an end to concessions and believes the Russian takeover of the RLS to be a step conflicting to Azerbaijan's political, strategic and national interests.

LIBERAL DEMOCRATS CONVENE FOR CONGRESS

The Azerbaijan Liberal Democratic Party held a congress at the Rashid Behbudov Song Theater Friday, with 150 delegates from the party's 39 regional organizations in attendance. Unanimously elected as chairman of the party was its previous leader Fuad Aliyev. Also elected were 15 members of the ALDP management board and 5 of the control and revision commission.

CIVIL SOLIDARITY PARTY, LIBERAL DEMOCRATS SIGN CO-OP AGREEMENT

The Civil Solidarity Party and the Azerbaijan Liberal Democratic Party signed a cooperation agreement Wednesday. The document stipulates that both parties are to run for elections in a coalition, to hold monthly meetings of the party executives and to establish contacts between regional organizations of the two parties.
