Azerbaijan to open new embassies

Azerbaijan will open its embassies in a number of countries, according to Foreign Minister Vilayat Guliyev. Back in 1997, the President decreed to open diplomatic representations in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Syria, but financial constraints did not make it possible.
The Minister said embassies in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan would be opened first. He added that Japan's government had suggested that the embassy of Azerbaijan be opened in Tokyo as well.
Touching upon the prospect of replacing ambassadors who have been in office for long years, Min. Guliyev said this was the prerogative of the President.
