Latvian foreign minister in Baku
A Latvian delegation led by foreign minister Indulis Berzinsh is on an official visit in Baku. The delegation includes mostly Latvian entrepreneurs.
While in Baku, the Latvian minister first held a closed-door meeting with his Azeri counterpart Vilayat Guliyev, as the two made a statement for press afterwards. Min. Berzinsh told journalists that Latvia is determined to establish cooperation with Azerbaijan and foreign ministries of the two countries should facilitate this process. Touching upon the signing of cooperation and transport agreements between the two ministries, the Latvian minister said three more documents on cooperation in avoiding double taxation, customs and aviation would be penned soon. These documents are currently under preparation, he said and invited Min. Guliyev to pay an official visit to Riga.
Speaking of extensive cooperation opportunities, I. Berzinsh indicated that the Latvian Bank is operating in Azerbaijan, while the Azeri community of Latvia is engaged in business activities.
Azeri foreign minister said political issues had been in the focus as well, with regional situation and Garabagh settlement discussed. According to him, Latvia is expected to open its resident diplomatic mission in Baku shortly.
