TURKISH MILITARY DELEGATION STARTS VISIT
A delegation led by the head of the chief operative department under the Turkish armed forces Lieutenant-General Koksal Karabay arrived in Baku on an official visit Tuesday.
Defense Ministry's spokesman Ramiz Mammadov has told Azernews that the delegation is scheduled to visit the Alley of Martyrs and meet with defense minister Safar Abiyev on Wednesday.
The objective of the visit is to become familiar with the military education system in Azerbaijan and focus on prospects of cooperation.
The delegation will also visit military schools and meet with President Aliyev.

WOMAN ELECTED AS VICE-SPEAKER
On Tuesday, the Milli Mejlis elected Mrs. Govkhar Bakhshaliyeva, 47, as vice-speaker of the Azerbaijan parliament. She is a native of Barda, MA in Oriental languages, and has been the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences since 1997.
G. Bakhshaliyeva, elected to parliament from the Barda-Agjabadi constituency, is a member of the permanent parliamentary commission on science and education and of the Azeri-Egyptian parliament group.
G. Bakhshaliyeva is married and has a son.

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT DELEGATION EXPECTED ON A VISIT
A 6-people European Parliament delegation is expected to visit Baku June 18-19. The group will meet with the chairman of the Milli Mejlis and other MPs. Also scheduled is a meeting with President Aliyev.

MEP VALUED AT $2.9BN
According to the BP president in Azerbaijan Mr. David Woodward, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main export pipeline is tentatively valued at $2.8-2.9 billion. He said the figure had been arrived at after the length of the pipeline was extended following basic engineering operations.
The conduit, to be laid in 42-inch pipes, will be 1,746km long. There will be 7 pumping and 4 oil-metering stations along the pipeline.
Mr. Woodward indicated that the detailed engineering stage would start on June 20 and take 12 months to complete.

US PROVIDES $600,000 IN GRANT
The United States Trade and Development Agency has provided a grant of $600,000 to Azerbaijan to study the possibility of expanding the Dubandi terminal and exporting crude from the east coast of the Caspian through Azerbaijan. As part of the grant, two Azeri refineries will be modernized, according to the SOCAR president Natig Aliyev.
He said the US Administration is interested in the operation of the East-West energy corridor and its prospective development. Specialists are expected to explore whether the two refineries can also refine Kazakh, Turkmen and Russian oils in order to ensure uninterrupted transportation of Azeri oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

NEW RAMSTORE SUPERMARKET TO BE BUILT THIS YEAR
Executives of the recently burnt "Ramstore" supermarket seems to be optimistic and is going to build a new modern one before the end of this year.
The supermarket spokesman said on conditions of anonymity that talks with Turkish construction companies are already underway. The construction will be undertaken with the $7.3 million to be provided by the "Gunay-Anadolu" insurance company and the means of Koc Holding, owner of the supermarket network.
Construction is expected to start after the preliminary investigation into last week's accident is over. Contrary to speculation, the investigation group has ruled out arson as possible cause for the fire.
