ARMENIA SHATTERS CEASE-FIRE
From 1.20 till 1.40 p.m. last Tuesday, the Armenian troops based on the Sariyal mountain tops in Armenia's Krasnoselsk province subjected the positions of Azeri Armed Forces in the Gyzylkhanyal mountain and Bashkand gorge of Gadabay province to sustained submachine and machine gun fire. The shooting ceased after retaliation.
PRESIDENT TO VISIT KAZAKHSTAN IN NOVEMBER
On November 16, Astana is expected to host a Summit on Interaction and Measures of Confidence in Asia to be attended by 15 heads of state. The parties will focus on security in Asia.
According to a diplomatic source, President Aliyev has been invited by his Kazakh counterpart and is going to take part.
MOSCOW TO APPOINT NEW CHECHEN ENVOY
"It is time to open a representative office of Chechnya in Azerbaijan", says a spokesman of Russian ministry for federal, national and migration policy Igor Zadvornov. According to him, Russia does not consider the current representative of Chechnya in Azerbaijan Ali Asayev to be officially authorized.
BSEC FOREIGN MINISTERS TO MEET IN MOSCOW
Foreign Ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) organization member states is due in Moscow on April 27. According to a diplomatic source, the ministers are expected to focus on organizational issues relating the completion of Russia's presidency term.
Azeri foreign minister Vilayat Guliyev is expected to take part.
POWERFUL MAGNETIC STORMS COMING UP
Palpable solar activity was registered on April 9-10, the impact of which is expected to reach the earth between 10.00 till 15.00 on April 11 causing powerful magnetic waves also on the following day, says director of the science and research institute for hydro-meteorology Rza Mahmudov.
The intensity of solar blasts is expected to subside by the week-end, according to Russian "Izmiran" and US "Boulder" centers.
R. Mahmudov calls on those suffering from cardiovascular and neural disorders to exercise caution.
FESTIVAL OF DESIGNERS TO BE HELD
The first nationwide children's science and technical festival is due on April 12. The purpose is to select children aged between 8 and 18 possessing a knack for scientific activities and to seek subsequent government support for them.
The festival is expected to display model planes, space rockets, cars, vessels and radio devices. It will be held at the Children's Picture Gallery and outside the Indoor Games Palace.
The event is being initiated by ministries for youth and sports and education, the voluntary military-patriotic and technical council and the National Assembly for Youth Organizations.
