‘Milosevic arrest must lead to his extradition to icty’, says COE PA president
Milosevic’s arrest must lead to his extradition to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly president Lord Russell-Johnston said Monday, according to the COE press-service.
"Milosevic has been put in prison, but not yet brought to justice. His arrest is good news, provided that it will lead to his extradition to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague," Lord Russell-Johnston said.
"Limiting his responsibility to the charges for which the Serbian courts have so far indicted him would be a travesty of justice. It was heart-warming to see that a great majority of the Serbs reached to the news of Milosevic's arrest with relief and approval and that those who forecast that there would be violent upheaval were wrong."
"The Serbs clearly want to turn the page Milosevic wrote in their recent history. Sending him to The Hague is the most appropriate and the quickest way to make this happen," the Parliamentary Assembly president said.
