Azeri player wins European Chess Cup

European Junior Chess Cup closed in an official ceremony at the Olympic Complex Wednesday, as Georgian chess player Zviad Izoria won a gold medal among boys, scoring 8,5 points, followed by Azeris Vuqar Hasimov and Sahriyar Mammadyarov with 7.5 points each.

Winning the championship among girls was Azeri Zeynab Mammadyarova. Chairman of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, international grand master Aynur Sofiyeva has told a news conference that she highly appreciated the performance of young Azeri chess players, especially Z. Mammadyarova.

Thus, Azeri players won a set of medals among players under 20 for the first time. Also getting medals were Georgian players, including Nana Dzagnidze and Inga Chikhartashvili, who won a silver and a bronze respectively.

The participants in the contest and guests praised the organization of the championship.*
