The erection of the monument to the people's artist of Azerbaijan Azim Azimzadeh has been completed on the instruction of Baku Mayor Hajibala Abutalibov. The picturesque square where the monument stands has also been restored and cleaned.
National celebrations dedicated to the renowned native of Azerbaijan Mstislav Rostropovich, who will turn 75 this year, are due on Azimzadeh Square Thursday. The composer will arrive in Baku to mark the 110th anniversary of his father, well-known violoncello player Leopold Vitoldovich Rastropovich.
A. Azimzadeh, the founding father of caricature school in Azerbaijan, started his creative activity in the “Molla Nasraddin” magazine, the first satirical publication in the east in the 20th century, which was then followed by a number of other magazines, such as Mazali, Bij, Kalniyyat, etc. The publication was ridiculing the life-style and drawbacks of the then society.*
