Refugee Committee’s local branches accused of embezzlement

Opposition MP Igbal Agazadeh told a parliamentary session Tuesday that he and MP Sabir Rustamkhanli had recently traveled to tent towns to witness the plight of IDPs there. The MP said he had facts of embezzlement of funds the President has allocated from the SOCAR budget by local branches of the State Committee on Refugees. He suggested that the parliament mull the social and economic status of IDPs and hear the report by the head of the Committee.

Responding to the proposal, speaker Alasgarov said that the issue had always been in the limelight of the state and was outside of the parliament’s powers.*
