President addresses nation on Khojali genocide anniversary
On the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis in Khojali, President Aliyev has addressed the people of Azerbaijan. He said, "On February 26, 1992, Armenian military units equipped with most up-to-date weaponry and munitions and with direct involvement of the Soviet Army infantry regiment No. 366, obliterated the town of Khojali of Azerbaijan from the surface of earth exterminating innocent civilian population, including hundreds of women, elderly and children".
The President then described the tragedy as the most horrible of all the genocide acts perpetrated by Armenian bigots against Azerbaijan in the 20th century.
The President said further that the world community has regrettably remained indifferent by not giving any moral or political assessment to this flagrant barbarism on part of Armenia.
"The Azerbaijan government and people have the task of providing an objective picture of the Khojali tragedy to the world community, of the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict and the Garabagh problem, the task of revealing the nature and proportions of the crimes perpetrated against our nation and unmasking Armenian nationalists introducing themselves as helpless martyrs", the President said.*
