 | Golden sand being stolen, with police standing by |
It has been several years since golden sand started being stolen from the "Lagishkie Dachi" resort area on Absheron peninsula, a part of the Kurdakhani municipality. The sand is sold to builders in the vicinity of Baku and on the countryside. In 2000 alone, over 800 cubic meters of golden sand were taken away, inflicting the damage of AZM22 billion to the state, chairman of the Union for Free Consumers Ayyub Zeynalov told AssA-Irada Saturday.
He said ha had been asked by the head of the Kurdakhani municipal council for assistance, because all appeals to the Sabunchu district police, district attorney, Baku City Police Department, Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Baku Land Department, and the Absheron Branch of the State Ecology Committee yielded no fruit.*
