 | Iran to mark 800 birthday anniversary of Tusi |
Iran is expected to officially celebrate the 800th birthday anniversary of the great Azeri philosopher, thinker and founder of the first observatory in the Orient (in Maraga city of contemporary Iran) Nasraddin Tusi (1201-1274).
UNESCO has announced the year 2001 the year of Nasraddin Tusi and Azerbaijan is going to stage celebrations as well. Though the great scholar has already turned 800, on February 17, the exact date of the jubilee celebrations remains to be set, says head of the Baku department of the N. Tusi Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory Rahim Zeynalov.*
