Cases of spider stings registered in Baku

Conventional causes for intoxication (carbon monoxide, vinegar, medicinal, snake bites) have been supplemented with venomous spider-stings. The spider, referred to as Black Spider, is very uncharacteristic for Azerbaijan and is largely found in Central Asia, says head of the Toxicological Center of Azerbaijan Azer Magsudov.
According to him, one of such cases was registered in Baku in 1999 and 4 in 2000. Luckily, all of the victims were saved.
Black Spider stings cause severe poisoning, sometimes even with lethal outcome. Their typical symptoms are overall body ache, feeling of fear and low blood pressure.
Dr. Magsudov called on the Bakuvians to be on alert.*
