Azerbaijan citizenship duties being introduced

The budget package forwarded from the President’s office to the permanent parliamentary commission on economic policy entails a bill “On state duties” allowing for introduction of new duties.

Under the draft, an expatriate willing to stay in Azerbaijan for over 30 days is to pay a duty totaling 9 conditional financial units (a unit equals AZM5,500) to obtain a registration certificate and 5 financial units to accept or reject Azeri citizenship.

Following the debates, the commission decided to forward the bill to the Milli Mejlis for consideration.*
