Some infectious diseases wiped out
Such infectious diseases as diphtheria, measles and cholera have been completely wiped out in Azerbaijan, minister for public health Ali Insanov told a traditional news conference at the Yeni Azerbaijan Party headquarters Friday. According to him, only 6 years ago, in 1995, 48 cases of ulcer were registered, with just one case discovered so far in 2001.
Min. Insanov said 13,000 people contacted malaria in 1998, much more than 480 to this end this year. The rate of tuberculosis in Azerbaijan is lower than in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and other countries.
According to him, no cases of TB meningitis among children have been in evidence this year. As far as cholera is concerned, the last 6 cases of the disease were discovered in 1996.*
