Draft amnesty decree to be discussed in parliament

President Aliyev forwarded a draft presidential decree on amnesty on the occasion of Azerbaijan's admission to the COE to the Milli Mejlis Tuesday. The draft says that 2,300 prisoners are subject to amnesty. It halves imprisonment terms of 800 prisoners and releases 4,400 those who have not been life-jailed. Moreover, law enforcement and prosecution bodies will dismiss criminal cases against 1,300 people, as well as disciplinary cases concerning 120 militaries, according to the draft. In all, the amnesty is scheduled to cover 9,000 people.
For the last few years, 55,000 people have been released as a result of 5 amnesty decrees.*
