According to the prediction of the vice-premier of the Azerbaijan Abid Sharifov, around 6 million tons of various consignments will be transported through the Eurasian transport corridor in 2001 as opposed to 5.2 million tons last year.
In 1995, the figure stood at just 400,000 tons.
Mr. Sharifov said the palpable successes have been attained following the opening of the TRACECA permanent secretariat in Baku.
The European Union has allocated a total of Euro 11.5 million for 10 projects implemented in Azerbaijan since the start of TRACECA program. This year, Euro 15 million has been allotted for the reconstruction of the Baku-Beyuk Kasik-Poti motorway.*
