 | Azerbaijan to join 'Say Yes for Children' |
Azerbaijan is expected to joint the "Say Yes for Children" global referendum Tuesday, which is being conducted worldwide within the framework of Global Movement for Children. The purpose of this referendum is to bring the call from people from all over the world for the better future for children to the attention of World's Leaders who will convene in New York in September 19-21 this year for United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Children Issues.
On April 23, 2001, Nane Annan, wife of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, launched a global campaign in Turkey.
On April 26, 2001, the global referendum was launched in London. An Azeri girl Sevinj Mirzayeva joined five young campaigners from United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Kenya, Turkey, and South Africa.
Up to date, 13,665 pledges have been submitted electronically to Say Yes for Children web-site on www.netaid.com and www.gmfc.org in a short period of time.*
