 | Polluter enterprise shut down |
The Sumgayit committee for ecology and control over the utilization of natural resources has discovered an illegally operating enterprise. The plant had been smelting the harmful aluminum wastes and releasing them into the atmosphere without any prior purification whatsoever.
As a result, the enterprise polluted an area of a hectare and caused detrimental effect on plantations on the plot. The owner of the enterprise has been held accountable for the AZM3,932,220 worth of damage, while the enterprise itself was shut down.
A total of 54 suits have been filed in one month, resulting in AZM37,954,133 worth of penalties and over AZM5 million in administrative fines.*
