Feasibility study for reconstruction of subterranean gas storage ready

As part of the European Union Tacis program, French Sofregas has prepared the feasibility study for reconstruction of the Garadagh and Kalmas subterranean gas storage facilities. According to the document, reconstruction of the former requires $171 million and of the latter $81 million, according to “AzeriGas” joint stock company.
Currently, the combined storage capacities of the two sites are 5 billion cubic meters of gas. In the future, as production of natural gas in the republic rises, in particular due to the development of Shah Daniz and other vast gas fields, the volume of stored gas will also increase. This has necessitated construction of extra storage capacities.*
