 | Mingachevir find attributed to ancient elephant |
As reported earlier, remains of an unidentified animal were discovered 10km off Mingachevir lately. Some scholars claimed that the bones were of dinosaurs, while others insisted on their elephant origin.
An employee of the Institute of Geology under the Academy of Science of Azerbaijan, chief of the paleontology laboratory Tariel Heybatov, who has just returned from Mingachevir, told AssA-Irada Thursday that the final conclusion has attributed the bones to 4 elephants of 400-600 thousand years ago.
The elephant head weighs around a ton. Such elephants have not been discovered elsewhere in the world, the scholar said.*
