19 apartment buildings restored

As of December 30, 2000, 19 earthquake-damaged apartment buildings in Baku and Sumgayit had been restored. In addition, money has been transferred to those on the countryside whose houses have either been badly damaged or completely ruined (111 and 5 respectively).

The process of inspection of damaged buildings in Baku and Sumgayit is underway: 9,429 buildings have been examined, 539 found in an emergency condition, including 452 residential. 3,156 people have been evacuated, according to the ad hoc state commission.

According to the seismological center under the Academy of Sciences, several weak tremors were registered on January 1. Only one person is still undergoing treatment in hospital.*
