 | UNESCO to old conference on Ichari Shahar in 2001 |
General director of UNESCO Konchiro Matsuura has approved holding an international in 2001 conference dedicated to an old part of Baku – the Ichari Shahar (Old City). The head of UNESCO has informed the Azerbaijan Minister for Culture Polad Bul-Bul Ogli of the decision, while the two attended a roundtable of Culture Ministers of over 100 countries in Paris.
A decision was made to hold a UNESCO-organized conference on culture and tourism in Baku next year. Mr. Matsuura said he was pleased with the fact that such historical monuments of Azerbaijan as Ichari Shahar, the Palace of Shirvanshahs and the Maiden’s Tower into the world register of cultural monuments.*
