Underground station accident kills 1, injures 11

A dozen people were injured in an accident at the Baki Soveti underground station on Wednesday afternoon.

The escalator went out of order and started rapidly moving and then stopped abruptly, making the passengers fall over, AssA-Irada correspondent reported from the accident site. One man is feared dead, informal reports say.

The injured people were rushed to an emergency aid hospital.

Although the metro officials said only five or six people were lightly injured, eyewitnesses say the number is 25 and among the injured are infants.

The Prosecutor’s Office representatives carried out on an expertise for four hours but did not provide any information on the reasons for the accident.

A report issued by the Prosecutor’s Office in the evening said that 11 people were injured, including one, a resident of Amirjan settlement of Baku, who later died.*
