Turkish ambassador attacked downtown Baku

Unidentified individuals attacked Turkish ambassador Turan Morali in the early morning hours on Saturday, while he was walking on the Fountain Square downtown Baku. The assailants stole the ambassador’s briefcase containing documents and weapon, local ATV channel reported quoting the Azerbaijan Interior Ministry.

The preliminary version developed by a special investigation and operations group set up to look into the incident suggests that this was a plain robbery and the assailants were not aware of Morali’s being an ambassador, the report said.*
