Discovered animal fossils in spotlight
As reported earlier, a burial site of unidentified animals has been found in the vicinity of Mingachevir. The find has given rise to speculation among scholars.
A research worker from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography (IAE) under the Academy of Sciences Hasanagha Ramazanli maintains that the discovered remains are those of dinosaurs.
Other assumptions concerning the find have already been voiced. Head of the Institute’s archeological researches section Aziz Novruzlu thinks the discovered bones are not of dinosaurs, but remnants of unidentified animals belonging to the anthropogenic period. Mr. Novruzlu does not rule out presence of human bones in the find.
Head of the geography section under the Institute of Geography, member of the Academy of Sciences Aliashraf Mammadov, the bones are those of an elephant, the assumption he says has been confirmed by an analysis of the remains at the Institute of Geology.
Mr. Mammadov added that a complete skeleton of an unknown animal was found in Mingachavir on March 22. A group of scientists from the Institute of Geology are expected to travel to the site shortly.*
