Around The City

  • Taxi is most recommended for those who visit Baku for the first time and speaks neither Russian nor Azeri.
  • New-comers should note that Baku taxis do not have taximeter and do not give bills.
  • Taxis are yellow Turkish cabs with TAXI sign or white Huindais with blue sign. Blue license plates are officially licensed and are considered to be safer, although almost all taxis are safe anyway.
  • For now many taxi drivers know English names of major offices and public places usually visited by foreigners (so if you just say Bailovo they will take you to Villa Petrolea (AIOC office).
  • If your ride will keep you more or less in the center of town (i.e. you are not going "up the hill" or "crossing the bridge") you can probably pay 5000 M. Driving rush hours pay more.
  • Remote districts will cost about 25,000 or 30000 Manats.
  • If you speak Russian or Azeri it is recommended to agree the trip price before you get in the car.
  • Never agree the price in USD.
  • Try not take private cars.
  • There is no FREE autostop in Azerbaijan.
  • No need to tip taxis after agreed price.
